Show nameShades of Blue
Show DJs Adam Hirsch
Show infoPut simply, Shades of Blue serves the soul with no grooves barred. With a focus on jazz and all its different shades, we use almost exclusively vinyl records culled from the dusty caverns of the WOBC vault. From the sweet blast of a young Louis Armstrong's cornet all the way to the blunted thump of a J Dilla beat tape, our programming serves to explore "America's classical music" and the ways in which its blueness has characterized hip-hop, funk, fusion, soul, R&B, and electronic nearly a century after its birth. In addition to being a record-digging session, Shades of Blue is also a forum for all of the extraordinary jazz talent on the Oberlin campus to share their music. We regularly invite our friends in the jazz department to come in and hang, whether it involves jamming live on the air, playing a track, or just straight discussion. So sit back, dig the joints, and let the airwaves immerse your mind in the groove. Shades of Blue keeps it real, funky, and faded just for you.
